Installation Process - How to install Bulk Object field Creator (BOFC) application in any salesforce org?


Few Simple Steps to Install BOFC Application in Salesforce


1. Open Google on any of your browser & Search "BOFC + Appexchange"





2. It will open below screen & click on highlighted link



3. It will open AppExchange page of BOFC. Now click on "Get It Now"



4. Choose if you would like to login on Appexchange with salesforce credentials or do you want to create a new account. User can login with any developer account details. Click Log In (if you have details) and enter your login details.


5. On Successful login, it will ask whether we need to install package in Sandbox or Production (or developer) instance



6. Once a blue button is clicked on above screen, it will ask you for final confirmation to install and will land to Salesforce login page of the org in which BOFC Application needs to be installed.





7. On Successful login to salesforce, it will show below screen


8. Click "Install" button and it will show a popup


These are salesforce login urls for sandbox or production (which are required when metadata api's are required to be hit, depending upon user sandbox or production)

Check the highlighted box and click "Continue" and wait for application to be installed



On successful installation, salesforce will send an email to logged-in user for successful installation.

How to "Export Multiple Objects" in single xls sheet in Salesforce in few clicks?

IDEA:  For any Salesforce Admin or developer, there is a requirement to mass export multiple objects (Custom or Standard Object) in xls. It would be tedious job to copy and click each object one by one using Salesforce Standard process.  

These type of work requests would take more effort and time, so one of the best option to overcome this situation is by using the this appexchange tool called Salesforce Bulk Object Field Creator (BOFC)

Few Simple Steps to Export Multiple Objects in salesforce


1. Open the BOFC Home > Click "Bulk Export Fields" or "Export Object & Fields for Multiple Objects"



2. It will open below screen for BOFC "Export Objects" screen



3. User can choose different actions on below image has many features (each number has its description as below):
  1. Select single or multiple objects from the drop down. For ex:  Selected Objects: Asset, Case, Campaign, Case Test
  2. Select what needs to exported (for eg: standard fields, custom fields, etc)
  3. Select "Field Permissions" option to export field permission for all the standard or custom fields
  4. If Field Permission is selected, then it is mandatory to choose Profiles using "Select Profile(s) option.
  5. System Fields are the salesforce controlled fields which cannot be exported using normal way. This is a unique feature available in this tool.
  6. Click "Click to Initiate Export" button to export xls file for all the selected objects with all the selected details. It will exports single xls (with multiple tabs, one tab for each object) for all the selected objects in Salesforce           
4. On clicking the export buttons, it will display a small section on the page. This section show the status of your export for multiple objects. Wait for couple of seconds, until status is changed to "Completed"
  1. Status: Shows if process got completed or not
  2. Total Object Selected: Shows no of object selected to export
  3. Objects Processed: Shows no of object which are processed
  4. Failure: Shows no of objects which got error out
5. Once status is "Completed", your file is ready for export. This below image has some number highlighted in [].
  1. Download Complete Object Details: On clicking this link, it will download a xls file for all the selected objects. Each object is represented as a separate tab in xls. Each Tab will have complete detail of Object, Standard Fields, Custom Fields.
  2. Download only Custom Fields: On clicking this link, it will download a xls file for all the selected objects. Each object is represented as a separate tab in xls. Each Tab will have only Custom Fields. This is used when user needs to take export and insert same fields in some other orgs.

How to Update multiple Custom Fields in Salesforce in few clicks?


Requirement:
For any Salesforce Admin or developer, if there is a requirement to update multiple field attributes like length, label, Description or HelpText (or any other attribute) for Custom Fields for multiple objects (Standard or Custom). 

- For a developer, it would be tedious job to open and update each field one by one using Salesforce Standard process.  These type of work requests would take much more effort and time.

To overcome this situation and save user precious time, there is an appexchange tool called Bulk Object Field Creator (BOFC).

Few Simple Steps to Update Multiple Custom Fields in salesforce

2. It will open below screen for BOFC Update Fields

User can Update fields in two different methods..

  • 1st method: Display all the fields in table, then modify & Update in Salesforce

  • 2nd method: Download all the fields in XLS, then Modify in XLS, upload and Update in Salesforce

3. Let's go through both the methods in below steps. 

1st  Method = "Show directly in Table > Modify > Update"

The below image has some numbers defined and below are there descriptions:
    1. Select single or multiple objects
    2. Select type of field to update as "Show Directly in table"
    3. Click "Display Fields" button to display list of custom fields for an selected objects


    
        Once this blue button is clicked, it will displays all the custom fields in tabular format as shown below.

    1. User can filter fields by object or field names
    2. Pagination - This page has a pagination if count of fields is more than 80.  Each page shows 80 fields. User can use ">" or "<" or "<<" or ">>" buttons to navigate on other pages
    3. User can select fields by checking checkboxes infront of each row
    4. Each row columns are enabled or disabled depending upon field type. User can update the field attributes which are editable (scroll the tables and it will show more columns)
    5. Total Field Count on page & Selected field count (for update)
    6. Button "Update Fields" - On clicking this button, it will update all the selected fields for object.

           

       Select the Fields which you want update by selecting checkbox infront of each row.


Once fields are selected, Click "Update Fields" button to Update fields for an object. Once the Update action is completed, it will show "Success or Error" status message in-front of each row (check below image for reference)



2nd  Method = "Download as XLS > Modify > Upload > Update"

If user selects the 2nd method to download the sheet, it will display below UI for the user. This image is labeled with some number and below are there descriptions:


    1. Select single or multiple objects
    2. Select Method to Update as "Download as XLS"
    3. Click on Download as xls and wait for couple of seconds for process to complete (as shown in below image)
    

    a. User can click on [Download] link as per above screenshot to download all custom fields in XLS
    b. Open excel and modify your field details and save file as xls or xlsx
    c. Open your BOFC Update Field page and drag or select your excel file.

    
    Drag file on page and it displays all the fields in tabular format as displayed below:

How to "Clone Custom Fields" from "one object to another object" in Salesforce in few clicks?

Few Simple Steps to Clone Multiple Custom Fields in salesforce


1. Open the BOFC Home > Click "Bulk Clone Fields"


2. It will open below screen for BOFC Clone Fields
User can clone the fields from different type of source orgs:
    • Can clone fields from an Object in the current org in which BOFC is installed
    • Can clone fields from an Object of external org which are linked / non-linked to current org in which BOFC is installed

3. Select the "Source Org" from the where you want to clone the fields & Enter the API name of the source object
4. Select the target object


    5. Let's manage the field permissions for Target Object & its fields
    Here user can select multiple profiles & can choose what type of field permission should be assigned to new fields (Read or Edit).

    6. Finally we are ready with all the configuration and ready to initiate the process to clone.

    Click "
    Fetch Source Object Fields" - On clicking this button, it will fetch all the source fields of the selected source object

    7. Once the "Fetch Source Object Fields" button is clicked, it will display all the fields of a selected source object.

    For ex:  Source Object: LOB__c
                Target Object : Opportunity

      2. User can filter source fields on the basis of Field Types

      4. User can select source fields by checking checkboxes infront of each row

      6. Button "Clone Fields to Target Object" - On clicking this button, it will clone all the selected source fields to target object
    8. Select the Fields which you want to clone by selecting checkbox in-front of each row.


    Once source fields are selected, Click "Clone Fields to Target Object" button to Clone fields from Source Object to Target Object. 

    9. Once the Clone action is completed, it will show "Success or Error" status message in-front of each row.

    All the field attributes like (label, api name, description, help text, etc) are cloned and also fields permissions are cloned for each profiles.
